Improvements to South High

A quick overview:

  • Work included in the 2010 projects:
    1. Complete door hardware replacement project to provide ADA accessible hardware on all doors
    2. Additional hardware including hinges, closers on about ¾ of the doors
    3. Replaced about 155 wood doors
    4. Replaced about 75 hollow metal doors
    5. Replaced about 4 dozen door frames
    6. New artificial turf multi-purpose field
    7. New synthetic surface track
    8. New field lighting at South HS field (partially funded through an NFL grant)
    9. New tennis courts (slab, synthetic surfacing, nets and fencing)
    10. New carpet in 31 rooms
    11. New vinyl composition tile in 18 rooms, most notably the Cafeteria which replaced the original battleship linoleum with a new floor reflecting school pride
    12. Various areas of new accent paint for school spirit
    13. New paint in Aux gym 270
    14. New windows in Aux Gym 270
    15. Refinished the wood flooring in  Aux Gym 264, adding accent paint for school spirit
    16. New fire suppression system throughout the building, making the building safer than ever before in its history
    17. New ADA accessible pathway from the school to the new field and track and south parking lot
    18. Refinished the wood floor at the arched windows in the 3rd floor library, repainted the wrought iron railing

 

Total costs to date:

  • Project 8280 (field, track, hardware, ADA, finishes):  $2,846,161.00
  • NFL Grant for field lighting:  $60,000 + $60,000 matched by DPS
  • Project 8279 (fire suppression system):  $2,311,674.00
