Letter from the Principal
July, 2011
Dear South High School Community Members,
It is with great anticipation and excitement that I begin my service to the community as South High School principal. There is a long tradition of excellence at South and it is my vision that we will expand the current academic and extra-curricular program to meet the needs of students in our neighborhood while continuing to provide a strong English acquisition program for our learners from around the world. We will prepare all students for college and post-secondary career opportunities, ensuring that they have the tools and resources needed to be successful once they graduate from South High School.
Having spent the last two years in our District’s central administration office as an instructional superintendent and assistant to the superintendent, I am eager to be back in a school working with students, teachers, and families – schools are where the real work takes place! I believe that my leadership experiences at the central level and as principal at both Bruce Randolph School and Morey Middle School, schools that demonstrated significant student achievement gains during my tenure, will help guide the work of our amazing staff so that South High School becomes the top performing school in Denver!
One of my priorities is to listen to the students, staff, and community members to make sure that we are working together as a team. I plan to regularly meet with students and teachers, and welcome members of the community to contact me with questions, ideas, or concerns. I want your honest feedback about our school.
The easiest way to learn about what takes place at South is to be inside our building, working alongside our students and teachers. Opportunities for involvement exist through our South High Alumni Association and our new volunteer program, overseen by our Parent and Community Liaison, Karen Duell. Your participation can make a difference in our students’ lives.
I look forward to getting to know and working with you in the coming months!
With warm regards,
Kristin Waters, PhD
Principal
